Default Question about joining a pre-existing Keeper league

As some of you know, in late Summer I changed jobs. With a new job comes new friends and new opportunities in fantasy baseball!

I have been invited to join in a pre-existing keeper league, where each team is allowed to keep 4 players. It's a 12 team league, and the other owners have gotten sick of an old owner and have decided to give him the boot. I'll be taking his place. Other than that, all I know is that it's hosted on Yahoo. I don't even know if it's roto or H2H!

My question is this: What's the "right" way for me to get into this league? Am I taking over his old team? Do I start fresh with nobody? If so, should I get the first 4 picks to compensate and even things out?

I have no experience with keeper leagues either. Any advice is welcome here.

IMO, you take his team and pick 4 keepers, provided that you are the only new player. If someone else is also joining, then I would have both base their team off the available Non-Rookie players

Agreed.. We now allow(in our Mofo keeper) the NEW mangers recruited to take over the "old managers" team..think of it as a manger being FIRED in MLB..essentially you are being hired to replace him..thus taking his team..if there are two open spots..then it gets slightly ttricky as to who gets to pick what team..thats should be up to commish.. I am NOT in favor of picking NEW players form ENTIRE POOL..we did this one year..and I regret it..it gave IMO unfair advantage since new owners had STRONGER POOL to select keepers from then if it were from ONE team.. why should a "newbie" get a better FOUR KEEPERS then the entire league? Now if those happen to be on abandoned/vacant team..so be it then..if they are..chances are that manager is still STICKING around anyway...
