in 1974, Nolan RYan of the Angels hooked up in a pitching duel w/ Luis Tiant of the Red Sox. THe game went 15 innings and Tiant pitched 14 of them ; Ryan pitched all 15 !! He threw a total of 235 pitches that day !! ..

I found a box of the game in question.

Angels won it when they scored with one out in the 15th off starter and loser Luis Tiant (so he gets credit for 14.1 IP) when Denny Doyle singled in Mickey Rivers for a 4-3 win.
Ryan, however, "only" went 13 with a reliever taking the final 2.
The # of pitches wasn't listed (they didn't routinely track them then) and 235 sounds a bit high to me (since your source got the innings wrong he may be off a pitch totals too) although it probably wasn't too far off - mainly because Nolan
K'd 19 in the game and
walked 10 !!
The 4th inning, for instance, was pure Ryan:
walk, walk, walk, K, RBI-walk, K, K
7 batters, no hits, 1 run, 3 Ks, bases left loaded, no one puts a ball in play
Lots of Met connections in Anaheim in addition to Ryan.
LeRoy Stanton (he went over in the same trade) was in the OF
Sandy Alomar Sr started at SS; he was then PH for by future coach Tommy McGraw; and the replacement SS was none other than Bobby Valentine.
Angel 3Bman was Bob Oliver, father of future Met Darren
Game Time = 4:02
There are 9 inning Yankee games that go longer.
