OK, let's play with the premise that the entire NL East is terrible. Does that mean the entire NL East was even worse last season? Because, even though the Mets are only 5 games behind last years pace, their lead in the East is 11 games less than last season at this time. So, given that information one could argue that the NL East, as a whole, actually got better this season. Meaning, if the current NL East is better than the 2006 NL East, wouldn't that have something to do with the Mets not having the same stranglehold over the division?
