For a kid in Low A ball 2 years ago, I am defiitely impressed. It's clear he'll be a great defensive player and a force, like Reyes, on the basepaths.
He has power and game changing ability too. But what I like is that he's 21, certainly not ready, and he's had some great at bats where he's laid off junk, worked the count and even walked.
Not a lot of times, but he's slowly learning. And with 0 protection in the 8 hole, he had hit .360+ for a few weeks in June which was a good sign. If somebody o the Mets (good luck) teaches him to be patient and to continue working on that, he'll be a force even sooner than we expect.
Very impressed. And there is no pressure on him because he was never suppossed to be ready. It's a great position to be in. And proof that you can be a major market team and not collapse by having talented kid promoted, even if he is not quite ready. You don't always have to go for the career minor leaguer, which is tremendous. |
