I like how people point to the record before the Willie firing and subsequent improved play as though we should be feeling lucky and they were playing above their heads. Manuel got them playing how they SHOULD have been playing, that was what should have been expected from a team with this salary and core of Wright, Reyes, Beltran and Santana all season long. The fact that they have fallen back into losing baseball for the month of September is what makes it a collapse, not how far they had got in the division record. It's not like they're playing decent baseball and just being nudged out by a rival. They've played like walking turds against genuinely losing teams.
