1. Didn't they change the waiver rules a few years ago so that the player is not offered first within his own league and then to the other league? Since the Mets have a worse record than TB, I think they would take priority in the waiver contest. [On edit: I see this has just been discussed.]

2. Bradford being available is a symbol that other relievers have probably been available as well since before the deadline that Omar failed to get. Moreover, if Bradford was available now, it seems improbable that he was untouchable a week ago. While agree that it could be unfair to criticize Omar for the specific crime of "not trading for Chad Bradford on August 7th," with his shaky bullpen, with roster space to improve it before the deadline (Muniz is a waste), and seeing how cheaply some of the relievers have cost (Bradford, Rhodes, etc.), Omar definitely deserves criticism for doing nothing when any arm, even a lesser one would have been an improvement.
