Yeah, I saw that. For some reason I can't help believing that Shapiro was just letting Omar down easy, sort of like an "It's not you, it's me" thing. Though the report did claim that Shapiro was the one who initiated contact.
Then again, the Mets
do have enough, if they'd consider Wright or Reyes. Maybe Shapiro was taking a stab in the dark.
I doubt there's any way the Mets could have landed him strictly using prospects.
