Hat, he's had one season in his career with an OPS+ below 100, and his career numbers away from Philly are nearly identical to the ones he's put up in Philly.

He's a terrible defensive player and he's 32.
I think this comment underscores one of this team's philosophical problems - they focus too much on what a guy can't do. How many young, cheap and above all useful players have the Mets jettisoned, justifying it after the fact by whispering about their shortcomings? How many useful older parts have they taken a pass on because they're not long-term solutions, opting instead for lesser commitments to the truly aged and the truly terrible?

If this team is going to go anywhere, they're going to have to start paying for middle-shelf talent - guys with warts who still bring something to the table. Otherwise we're going to keep ending up with guys who simply can't do anything at all.

Privately, the Mets believe they scored enough runs last season (799, tied for second in the NL with the Phillies). Unless they can pull off an unlikely trade of Luis Castillo and add free agent Orlando Hudson to play second base, the likely move is to add a backup infielder such as Alex Cora.
799 runs is enough. Don't score a run more.
