A lucky first half goal by Juan Pablo Angel gave the New York Red Bulls their first lead in many games, but it was short-lived. Rookie Jeremy Hall made a rookie mistake to bring the two sides level at halftime and the Red Bulls rode a strong performance by Danny Cepero to eke out a 1-1 draw and escape rainy Giants Stadium with a point they probably didn’t deserve. Martin Brodeur would have preferred a larger margin for error, but he and the New Jersey Devils will have to settle for a 1-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
“Well, I like the 2, 3-nothing better,” Brodeur joked. “It makes it tough at the end, because one lucky bounce, anything could happen.”
