Here we are again. It’s July and already, Glen Sather has overpaid a big name free agent by signing Marian Gaborik to a five-year deal worth $37.5 million. For those math majors out there, it averages out to a cap deadly $7.5-per-season.
Predictably, many Ranger fans were at a loss for words, questioning handing out such [...]

As off-season’s go, Glen Sather really hasn’t had a good one since the lockout.
You might remember that one when the Ranger’s GM scrambled to fill his team with Czechs, just to keep Jaromir Jagr, his one superstar, happy. That worked with the Rangers making the playoffs for the first time in seven years.
But since then…Uggh.
The [...]

In the first move in what looks like to be a busy offseason, the Rangers traded center Scott Gomez, forward Tom Pyatt, and defenseman Mike Busto to the Montreal Canadiens for forward Chris Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko.
In moving Gomez, the Rangers clear major space on the salary cap since he is [...]

Once again a frustrating run to and through the playoffs has the left the New York Rangers with a mid-first round selection (19th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal on June 26, 2009. While the Rangers traded their second round draft pick (50th overall) as part of the Nik Antropov deal, they [...]

NEW YORK – After retiring three numbers this season, the New York Rangers have announced another ceremony scheduled for 2010, when they will raise former Islanders defenseman Denis Potvin’s No. 5 to the rafters.
“Denis Potvin may be the most remembered player in Rangers history,” said Rangers president Glen Sather. “Every game you hear his name [...]

There were no miracle blockbusters for the New York Rangers at yesterday’s trade deadline. And there were no magic elixirs, either.
There were just a couple of solid trades designed to make the Blueshirts a better team, and ones that allow the club a chance compete in the playoffs.
“What we were really trying to do was [...]

The move everyone expected the Rangers to make has been made today as the team claimed left wing Sean Avery on re-entry waivers from the Dallas Stars.
“We feel, especially in the division, we need a little more jam on our team,” coach John Tortorella said to reporters in Greenburgh. “Hopefully he can kick in a [...]

NEW YORK – John Tortorella didn’t come in with some magic goal scoring serum. And the last time we checked, there haven’t been any miracles to his credit.
Tortorella is just a hockey coach – a good one – but not someone who can turn around the Rangers over night.
Because of that the first two game [...]

As he looked at the two newly retired numbers of Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate from the “Garden Eyebrow,” something clicked during Rangers’ overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Glen Sather’s mind.
It was time to change the coach.
“I’ve been thinking about it probably the last couple of week,” Sather said in a conference [...]

According to multiple reports, the Rangers have agreed to a deal with John Tortorella to take over for Tom Renney.
Although the club has agreed in principle with the former Tampa Bay coach, the deal still needs to be signed off by the Lightning, since Tortorella is still under contract with the club. According to Newsday, [...]
