As expected, Sean Avery cleared waivers today, now we wait for the former Dallas forward’s next step.

The Rangers will have to accept Avery on lean from the Stars to assign him to the Hartford Wolf Pack, unless Dallas put him back through re-entry waivers first.

If he goes back through the system, the Rangers will probably claim him and then control the forward, rather than waiting to see how he plays first.

There’s no word from the Rangers yet.

If the Blueshirts get the forward on re-entry waivers, they will be responsible for half of Avery’s salary or $625,000 this season and $1,935,500 for each of the next three years. Right now, the Rangers have about $900,000 in cap room, but will probably clear space for Avery.
