All in all, it was a heartbreaking series and for the second consecutive year, the Charlestown Riverdogs were swept out of the playoffs in the first round. This time it was the Kannapolis Intimidators who bested the ‘Dogs in the best-of-three Southern Division Championship Series with two nail-biting games. After winning the series opener 4-3 in 21 innings, the Kannapolis Intimidators used a run in the top of the ninth to defeat Charleston 5-4 before a Riley Park crowd of 4,538 on Friday and advance into the South Atlantic League Championship Series.

CHARLESTON, SC – After a marathon, 21-inning 4-3 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators in Game 1 of the South Atlantic League Division Series, the Charleston RiverDogs return to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park for Game 2 on Friday. Chris Getz’s RBI single in the bottom of the 21st scored Layne Berry with the winning run for Kannapolis, which has now won seven of the nine meetings against Charleston this season. The RiverDogs sent the contest to extra innings by scoring two runs in the eighth on a home run by Evan Tierce and an error by Berry, the third baseman, on a ball hit by Ben Jones.
