Lundqvist Brothers Face Off Tonight
by: Joe McDonald | Publisher and Editor-in-Chief | Thursday, December 14, 2006
On Sunday, Henrik Lundqvist had a little sadness in his voice when asked about the possibility of facing his twin brother.
Joel Lundqvist was just sent down that day by the Dallas Stars after playing four games and Henrik, who never played against twin bother before in competitive play, figured he would probably have to wait for at least another year. “I am just happy for him to get the chance,” Henrik said on Sunday. “I hope he will be back.” But today, the Stars put Mike Modano on the injured reserve and called Joel back up, just in time for the Rangers to come into town [8:30 p.m. EST, MSG]. With Henrik in goal tonight, Joel - who wears No. 39 - will go after his first NHL points against probably the closest person to him in the world. In four games, Joel was minus-1 with four shots on goal. He seems to be pretty good in faceoffs, winning 15 out of 25 during his time in Dallas. This will be the third time in NHL history twins faced each other in a game.
