The New York Rangers announced today Jaromir Jagr will undergo surgery on Monday to repair a dislocation of his left shoulder.
The procedure will take place at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan and will be performed by team physicians Dr. Andrew Feldman and Dr. Tony Maddalo.
Jagr, who set team record this season with 54 goals and 123 points, dislocated his joint late in the third period of Game 1 of the Rangers playoff series against the Devils. After sitting out the next game, the forward came back and played in Game 3 at the Garden, but was not a factor.
Then in the final game of the series, he was checked by the Devils’ Brad Lukowich and fell into the boards, aggravating the shoulder, less than one minute into the game.
The Rangers expect him to make a full recovery in time for the start of training camp in September.
The organization also announced goalie prospect Al Montoya will also go under the knife on Monday to repair his dislocated left shoulder. The surgery will be performed by the same physicians and take place at the same hospital.
The goalie injured himself diving for a puck in Game 5 of the Wolf Packs' AHL playoff series against the Manchester Monarchs at the Hartford Civic Centre.
The former first round draft pick, Montoya has an impressive season at the Rangers’ AHL affiliate in Hartford. He appeared in 40 games this season, posting a record of 23-9-1, along with a 2.61 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. Among all AHL goaltenders, the rookie out of the University of Michigan tied for 10th in wins (23), ranked 11th in goals against average (2.61) and tied for 14th in shutouts (two). The 6-2, 201-pound native of Chicago, Illinois also appeared in the 2006 RBK Hockey AHL All-Star Classic with Planet USA on January 31 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
Montoya is also expected to make a full recovery.
