SUNS GET THE BIG SMACK DOWN IN SALISBURY
by: Jason Gordon | Hagerstown Suns | Thursday, September 8, 2005
Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds blew out the Hagerstown Suns in game one of a best of three, first round playoff game, 13-3, on Wednesday Night.
The Suns fell behind early when an error by shortstop Jose Coronado to the first batter of the bottom of the first led to three unearned runs. The Suns did manage to get two runs right back in the top of the second off of Shorebirds starter Kevin Hart. However, Delmarva came back with three more of their own in the bottom half of the second. Jose Sanchez got the loss, and gave up all of the first five runs, two earned, in just two innings. With the Suns trailing 5-3 heading to the bottom of the fifth, the wheels decided to fall off of the Suns train. The boys from Hagerstown gave up seven runs in the inning, which spelled doom for their chances for trying to steal game one on the road. Game two is Friday at 7:05pm in Hagerstown, with RHP Mike Devaney going up against the Shorebirds LHP Carlos Perez. If the Suns manage to force a game three, Blake Eager will try to send them to the league finals during a 7:05pm Saturday night game three in Hagerstown.
