BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets erased the sour taste from Thursday’s home opener loss in the 12th inning as Prentice Redman’s two out single drove in the winning run in the Mets 5-4 victory over the New Hampshire FisherCats.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Redman hit a line drive down the right field line that landed just foul. On the very next pitch he lined a base hit to left field that went past Davenport and allowed Aarom Baldiris to score safely with the winning run. "Prentice is the toughest guy to get out with two strikes," manager Jack Lind said. "He fouls balls off until he gets his pitch." Binghamton showed some resilience Friday night after quickly bouncing back from a two run first inning deficit after shortstop Anderson Hernandez booted a ball allowing New Hampshire to get on the board. The Mets answered back immediately in the bottom half of the inning with three runs aided by errors from FisherCats shortstop Raul Tablado and third baseman Rob Cosby. "We’ve shown every time we’re behind we can put guys on base," Lind said about his team's ability to comeback. New Hampshire tied the game in the top half of the second inning when Binghamton starter Matt Lindstrom gave up two hits and allowed a run to score on an RBI groundout by Miguel Negron. Once again the Mets answered in the third inning with a run scoring single from third baseman Jay Caligiuri. The score stayed tied until the'Cats came back to tie it in the eighth inning when rightfielder Bobby Malek misplayed a fly ball for the second night in a row allowing Ron Davenport to reach third to start the inning. Davenport would score on a sacrifice by Tablado. "We need to polish up the defense a little bit," Lind said. "We make outstanding plays, but we still have breakdowns in the field." Notes: Orlando Roman just entered the game when Malek misplayed the flyball. He settled down after that and retired twelve players in a row, striking out six. 3,125 fans attended the game and were treated to a post game fireworks show. Centerfielder Wayne Lydon continues to struggl and went 0-5 dropping his average to .100. Tim Hamulack (1-0) pitched a perfect twelfth to record the victory.
