Dragons Continue to Roll
by: Brian Bohl | Senior Writer - NY Sports Day | Sunday, April 27, 2008
UNIONDALE, N.Y.— Nearly two months ago, the Dragons started the season in ignominious fashion. A late rally fell short and quarterback Aaron Garcia suffered yet another leg injury in a Week 1 loss in Cleveland. The team’s fortunes didn’t improve in the subsequent weeks as quarterback instability and defensive inconsistency contributed to a 1-4 start. But things changed once the calendar flipped to April. A healthy Garcia revived the Dragons’ offense and the defense generated pressure even against upper-echelon passing attacks.Cleveland saw the improvement first-hand Saturday night, failing to curtail Garcia during his seven-touchdown effort in a 56-39 Dragons’ victory at the Nassau Coliseum. Kevin Swayne logged four touchdown receptions as the Eastern Division rivals split the season series.

by: Brian Bohl | Senior Writer - NY Sports Day | Sunday, April 6, 2008
UNIONDALE, NY — April Fools’ Day was earlier in the week. But you could forgive Dragons coach Weylan Harding for wondering if his team was tricking him. After losing four of the opening five games, the Dragons’ defense took out a season’s worth of frustrating on Grand Rapids quarterback James MacPherson. Defensive back John Walker did his best Night Train Lane impression, picking off three passes and contributing to a fourth interception as the defense tied a franchise record after generating six turnovers in a 63-34 blowout victory at the Nassau Coliseum. “I feel like I was able to make plays in good opportunities, but that’s no credit to myself. Our defensive line really got after them and our DB’s held up big time,” said Walker, who added his last intercepted three passes playing for Birmingham High School in San Fernando Valley.
