About NY Sports Day

NY Sports Day is an independent site that covers all the major New York sports teams. It was originally known as Mets Online, which was owned and operated by Bryan Hoch, until Major League Baseball forced him to shut down in July, 2002. (Click here for the history of Mets Online.) The Fan Forum (The MOFO) remained open, but Bryan stepped down in February, 2003 and, subsequently, transferred ownership to Joe McDonald.

Later that year, the site was re-opened as MOFO Sports and grew to become a credentialed news service. In December, 2004, NY Sports Day was born.

We cover all nine local teams (Mets and Yankees, Giants and Jets, Knicks and Nets and the Devils, Islanders and Rangers), as well as their minor league affiliates. Additionally, as we expand, we hope to have beat writers throughout the independent Atlantic League.

There are sections on our site map which urge fans to engage in all sports discussion, from general baseball memories to thoughts on the Hartford Whalers. NY Sports Day also features an upgraded message board, which allow fans to post fan photos. We also list local sports bars, so if you can't get to the game, you can certainly find a great place to watch it.

Even though the site changed, any member of the message board can still call it "The MOFO," which is an acronym for Mets Online Fan Forum.

We've been fortunate enough to score some top-flight interviews and, as such, they've been gracious enough to toss a few kind words our way:

"I think it's an all-encompassing guide to being a sports fan in New York. The site exudes the passion for each team that any individual fan would find both engaging and entertaining." - Alan Hahn - Newsday

"Joe McDonald has done a great job growing NY Sports Day from its roots as MetsOnline.net. The site continues to give readers exclusive content each and every day, and expands its reach seemingly by the minute." - Bryan Hoch - Mets Inside Pitch and former owner of Mets Online

"NY Sports Day does an excellent, exhaustive job of covering the New York City sports scene. I also enjoy the writer's interviews; I learn stuff about my friends that I didn't even know!" - Ken Rosenthal - The Sporting News

"I really enjoy the coverage of the minor league teams more than anything else. It's great to see feature stories on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Long Island Ducks - stories that you just can't find anywhere else on the web. I also enjoy the profiles of the broadcasters and writers who cover all of our New York sports teams - it gives you an inside look at what really makes them tick." - Chris King - Broadcaster New York Islanders and Long Island Ducks

"If stories like [the ones John Buro wote about the show] couldn't keep us on the air, I guess nothing could. After I read them I found myself thinking, 'Geez, who are these guys? I'd like to listen to them myself.'" - Former ESPN Radio host and current Newsday columnist Wally Matthews.

"Joe [McDonald] has a knack for writing short, yet informative columns around great quotes. Between him and Adam Rubin at the Daily News, young writers can learn a lot about this style." - Matt Cerrone - MetsBlog.com
